Well it’s that time again, the great Summer gaming drought. And like any gaming drought the folks at Steam have put out massive sales on all of their titles to make up for the lost revenues they’ll be experiencing. So here I’ll be out lining a Top 5 Must Have games while they’re massively on sale.
#5: Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim
That Skyrim is a good game is probably not that important. What is important is how well this game sells. The game has spent the last nine months on the top ten list of Steam games… something that most games cannot obtain for more than a week.
This basically means that Bethesda has absolutely no reason to give you a discount on this game… and yet here we are at the point where they’re giving a discount on all of their games.
Tie that in with a major DLC being due soon and the over 200 hours of unique gameplay…. definitely pick this one up before the sale ends.
#4: Company of Heroes Franchise
There is no secret that I’m a huge fan of RTS style games, and Company of Heroes is not one that will set you wrong. Company of Heroes is three games, the original, Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor. These games play a neutral role in history (which is odd for English games) in which you play all sides (including Germany) in the war and show how all sides relate to it.
The franchise usually goes for about $50. Apparently they are dropped down to about $25 and on their “day” down another 50% to $12.50.
At such a ridiculous deal it’s definitely worth grabbing as it’ll offer you at least 100 hours of fun.
#3: Anno 2070
Most games offer you about 20 hours of play. Anno 2070 is a game that offers hundreds and thousands of hours of play. Set in a futuristic post apocalytic world in which Eco nuts, Corporate scumbags, and scientists have taken over the world the world you must choose who you are working for and develop a company. BlueByte Studios and Related Designs are constantly putting out new DLC and new free events for this game making it not only worth your time, but a developer who is worth supporting.
#2: Crysis 2: Maximum Edition
When Crysis 2 launched it was already played by over 4 million people as the game was leaked early, pirated and distributed to the general public. By the time the game finally launched it did average sales, compared to the number breaking sales it would have done.
Crytek released the “Maximum Edition” which offers more guns, more skins, and more multiplayer options. If you do not own Crysis 2, definitely pick up this game. Crysis 2 is no doubt one of the better shooters I’ve played in a long time. Despite my general hatred for the shooter genre I actually like shooters. The problem isn’t that shooters are just inherently bad…. no the problem is that every one is trying to trade out originality in exchange for making a Modern Warfare clone.
Armageddon is a perfect example of a game that had so much potential but was lost because they tried to make it into MW3 tunnel adventure.
Crysis 2 does not have that problem. The world of New York City is open ended and you can go anywhere to solve your tasks. You are given three super powers to help you get through scenarios and are given a massive weapon’s selection. The game also features in game RPG elements for the lawls.
CryTek is a great developer who are always working on innovation and are one of the few studios in the last decade that has not laid off a single employee.
#1: Batman – Arkham City
With the Batman Arkham City Complete Edition due soon it is really really hard for me to recommend buying this while it is on sale… but I am. Grab Arkham City and all of the DLC at a cheap price please.
Arkham City is how you do a super hero game well. It is a very full experience that will have you demanding more. It is a movie tie in movie…. that has absolutely nothing to do with the movies at all.
If you have not experience Batman Arkham City… than you are in for a treat. The game might not only be innovative to the stealth genre, but also the hack and slash genre. This is one game where during this sale I’ve bought up all the DLC so I can go back and go through it. I made the mistake of not buying the DLC for this game last time it went on a sale…. not this time.
